08-09 CSB Independent Learning Project/Senior Solo Show

Ever since Jennifer Forsberg came to CSB|SJU, I have been intrigued by coil building and the texture of exposed coils. It has only been recently that I have found use in this technique to create my own body of work.

Before the evolution of what I now call "Holes", I experimented with coilbuilding as a texture rather than a structural process. I was interested in the idea of a hole and the shape in which an opening could possess. I now call these pieces "Keyholes."

In the midst of rolling out thousands of coils, I would occasionally take a break to throw out a few slabs, hence this series of wall hangings.

*Several of my 'Holes' made it into two juried art shows: a student show on campus and a student/professor show at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN.
